Photo du Jour: Sunset Over the Mekong – Luang Prabang, Laos

‘Twas a lovely manner in which to be greeted in our newest home away from home city: a tangerine-colored sun swiftly slipping behind the mountains, slow boats gracefully coasting along the Mekong, and merchants carrying hundreds of baskets of oranges from the boats to trucks waiting on the quay.

Ah, lovely Luang Prabang!

Hi! My name is Tricia Mitchell. I delight in telling stories about my slow travels through more than 65 countries. Some of my highlights have included sharing meals with locals in Armenia, Cambodia, and Tunisia; sipping sparkling wine with French cousins in Alsace; milking goats in a sleepy Bulgarian village; and training with a Japanese mine-clearance team in Laos. My husband, Shawn, and I are based in France’s Loire Valley.

Made only more perfect by the sound of the water and the aroma of the fresh oranges being carried past us!

Our internet connection speed doesn’t really allow for much photo viewing, so I’ve only seen bits and pieces of your posts. Were you and your family just in Africa and have you recently returned? I saw the posting text about the hungry snowbirds now too… :)

Sonali – thank you. Based on one of your recent post titles (I’m lacking visual imagery since the internet connection is soo slow here) I think you’re in India now. If so, which part? My husband and I will be heading to the south next month. Any recommendations for must-see spots?
