Austria

When I was eight years old, I made my first trip to Austria. While in enchanting Salzburg, I scribbled notes in my diary about the scrumptious pastries I feasted upon, as well as the snippet of Mozart’s hair on display at his Austrian birthplace. Since I was a budding pianist, I was jubilant that I had the same color hair as the celebrated musician.

A few years later, when I was back in Salzburg—the filming site for the American 1960s classic, The Sound of Music, I embarked on a cheesy bus tour that whisked guests from the movie’s gazebo to the Mondsee Abbey where the main characters were married.

Beyond Salzburg, I’ve also strolled the streets of Vienna and Innsbruck and trekked through the mountainous scenery of Tyrol to reach the 13th-century Ehrenberg Castle. Someday, I look forward to meeting some of my distant cousins who own a winery northwest of Vienna.
