Welcome, 2013!

Greetings Dear Readers, and Happy 2013!

2012 was an outstanding year, and it’s been a great pleasure sharing our journeys with you and virtually traveling along on yours as well. Thank you for your insight and support!

It’s been my tradition for several years to send out an end-of-year travelogue to my friends and family. Since I count many of you as special friends, I wanted to share our greetings here as well. If you click on the image below, you’ll come to a .pdf file with many of our globetrotting happenings. Brace yourself —  it was a jam-packed year for us! We have been very lucky to have had the experiences we’ve had and to have brushed shoulders with fantastic friends, old and new.

Many of you have likely made resolutions. I didn’t craft a traditional one this year, however, I’m now quite inspired to do so throughout the year, as a result of this wise quote from French-Cuban author, Anaïs Nin:

“I made no resolutions for the New Year.  The habit of making plans, of criticizing, sanctioning and molding my life, is too much of a daily event for me.”

Wherever you are in the world, I wish you a splendid 2013, and again, I say thank you for a fantastic year.

All the best,

Trish

About the author

Hi! My name is Tricia Mitchell. I delight in telling stories about my slow travels through more than 65 countries. Some of my highlights have included sharing meals with locals in Armenia, Cambodia, and Tunisia; sipping sparkling wine with French cousins in Alsace; milking goats in a sleepy Bulgarian village; and training with a Japanese mine-clearance team in Laos. My husband, Shawn, and I are based in France’s Loire Valley.

    1. Tricia A. Mitchell Avatar

Thank you very much, Victor. I’ve gotten a bit behind in the blogosphere, so it seems I have much to catch up on with your travels this year! All the best to you and your family for 2013.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your epic travelogue. What a trip! I have visited some of the places, notably in the USA and Canada but also Bali and Thailand, but have never been to many of the others. I admire the way you travel. What a wonderful thing to share with your husband. Happy New year.

Rachael, you made it through the entire novel? I’m glad you enjoyed it. :) We’ve indeed been fortunate to have explored so many places together this year. In fact, I’m not sure I even have the energy to top 2012’s travels in the coming months. We shall see.

Thank you for enhancing my blogging and photo-taking experience this year, Rachael! You’ve shared wonderful feedback, advice, and an inspiring gallery of work with me, and I was quite happy to eventually explore some of the American spots that you had recommended earlier this spring. All the best to you and your family for 2013!

I did indeed read the whole thing and no regrets! Thank you too, Tricia. I am very glad I happened upon your blog.

What an incredible year — thank you for sharing! (And Anais Nin has words of wisdom, indeed) ~ Kat

Kat, thank you – I also enjoyed the lesson in that quote. In fact, I probably haven’t followed that pearl of wisdom yet today. :)

Wishing you and your family a wonderful 2013. Thanks for making my blogging experience more fun in 2012.

Wow Tricia! We are so on the same wavelength with out New Year’s posts. I just published mine and used the exact same quote by Edith Lovejoy Pierce. So wonderful to share the same sentiment with you. Happy 2013!

    1. Tricia A. Mitchell Avatar

Marina, what a charming coincidence! Here’s hoping that you’ve enjoyed putting words onto the first pages of 2013 as much as we have; I love the feeling of opportunity that each morning brings. How exciting that you have a new setting this year too. :)

I do too! Cheers to a wonderful year of opportunity! xx

Thank you so much, Ruth – it’s really nice to hear from you again! In many respects, it seems like just yesterday that we were exchanging details about Kerala’s backwaters. I’m looking forward to reading more of your work in the coming year. Until then, I wish you many happy days.

All the best to you, Trish. And then some more…

Thanks so much, Alessandro. I studied a bit of Italian a few years ago, and I’m trying to recall the phrase to return the wishes to you. Felice Anno Nuovo, I believe. :) Ah, classes were a challenge since they were taught in German, but the beautiful rhythm of Italian still came through.

It has been an adventure of absolute delight – traveling with Tricia. My virtual suitcase is always packed and I am always ready to embark on a new experience. Hopeful one of these excursions will bring you to Vancouver. Good wishes Tricia for a very happy New Year. Virginia

    1. Tricia A. Mitchell Avatar

I would love it if we could make it to Vancouver in 2013, Victoria, for it’d be a pleasure to meet over a cup of tea and chat about all the creative mischief you’re regularly up to. :) Until then, I return the wishes for a splendid 2013. Thanks for brightening my days with all your kind comments, and for inspiring me with your projects.

Thank you Tricia, for this “book of travels “, it is amazing what you have explored and contributed the year of 2012. Wish you an adventurous and blessed New Year 2013

    1. Tricia A. Mitchell Avatar

Cornelia, you hit the nail on the head with your ‘book of travels’ description of our 2012 travelogue. I was exhausted just allowing my mind to wander to all the places we were lucky enough to visit.

Sending you belated wishes for a frohes neues Jahr! The Silvester/NYE fireworks in Oberammergau were really quite beautiful. The residents and visitors illuminated the Kofel-silhouetted sky on NYE, and on New Year’s Day, the city of Oberammergau presented a festive show, with food stands and traditional music. I’m still trying to master the Oberammergau tongue twister song. :)
