Photo du Jour: The Flight of a Bumble Bee – Perast, Montenegro

In the sleepy town of Perast, Montenegro, we were drawn to a canopy of wisteria, intoxicated not only by its delicate perfume but also its enchanting lavender hue. The symphony of hundreds of bees at work enhanced the moment.

I’ve never seen anything quite like this wisteria “forest,” with its mature twisted trunks. We stood underneath this lavender-colored ceiling for several moments, capturing the silhouette of this bee as he prepared to land on an elegant bunch of blooms.

I can only imagine how heavenly the honey must taste in Perast!

Wisteria is one of the most beautiful of all the Spring flowering plants and luckily it flourishes here in Australia. You captured a lovely shot with the bee busily going about his work.

Carol, and it comes in such a beautiful range of colors. I’m amazed that it can grow to such an old age.

Thanks, Jessica. If only I could’ve captured the wisteria’s aroma. It lured us in from about a block away.

I’ve seen some great images from Japan’s ‘wisteria tunnel.’ It seems it comes in many more colors! http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/wisteria-tunnel-kawachi-fuji-gardens

Now, factor in the wisteria’s light perfume, and the gentle buzzing of the bees, and you can imagine how stunning the moment was. :)

It’s nice to take the time to enjoy these simple pleasures of nature when they present themselves.

Gerard, well said. I loved just listening to the bees at work. There was a meditative air about the setting.

Lovely. Reminds me I need to plant one – ours died last year!

In our future yard, I’d love to have one too. What color was yours?
